Course Overview:
Introduction to Hairdressing: This module provides an overview of the hairdressing industry, its history, and the role of a hairdresser. Students will learn about different career paths and opportunities within the hairdressing profession.
Client Consultation and Communication: Emphasis will be placed on effective communication skills and client consultation techniques. Students will learn how to assess client needs, preferences, and expectations to provide personalized hairdressing services.
Hair Anatomy and Physiology: Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of hair anatomy and physiology, including the structure of the hair shaft, hair growth cycles, and factors that affect hair health. Emphasis will be placed on how these factors influence hairdressing techniques and treatments.
Hair Cutting Techniques: This module covers a variety of hair cutting techniques, including precision cutting, layering, texturizing, and razor cutting. Students will learn how to use different cutting tools and techniques to create various haircuts and styles for different hair types and face shapes.
Hair Coloring Theory and Application: Students will learn about the principles of hair color theory, including color wheel concepts, underlying pigments, and color formulation. They will also gain hands-on experience in applying hair color, highlights, lowlights, and corrective color techniques using professional hair color products.
Hair Styling and Blowouts: This module focuses on hair styling techniques, including blow drying, setting, and finishing. Students will learn how to create a variety of hairstyles, including straight styles, waves, curls, and updos, using different styling tools and products.
Chemical Hair Treatments: Students will learn about chemical hair treatments, including perms, relaxers, and keratin treatments. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the chemical processes involved, assessing hair condition, and ensuring client safety and satisfaction.
Hair Extensions and Hairpieces: This module covers the use of hair extensions and hairpieces to add length, volume, and texture to hair. Students will learn about different types of extensions, attachment methods, and maintenance techniques.
Scalp Treatments and Massage: Students will learn how to perform scalp treatments and massages to promote scalp health and relaxation. Topics include scalp analysis, exfoliation, moisturizing, and massage techniques.
Bridal and Special Occasion Hairstyling: This module focuses on hairstyling techniques for special occasions, including bridal hairstyles, prom hairstyles, and formal event hairstyles. Students will learn how to create elegant and timeless looks that complement different bridal styles and themes.
Salon Management and Business Skills: Students will learn about salon management principles, including appointment scheduling, client management, retail sales, inventory management, and financial management. They will also develop professionalism, ethics, and interpersonal skills necessary for success in the hairdressing industry.

Upon completion of the Hairdressing course at Sedney Institute of Technical and Vocational Training, students will be equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to pursue a rewarding career as a professional hairdresser in various salon, spa, or freelance settings.
